Firefighting foam extinguishers:
All foam, wet chemical and water additive fire extinguishers supplied by Express Fire since 2020 (TITAN KM including Moyne Roberts products, TITAN BK and TITAN CORE ranges) comply with all current EU Regulations and Directives including the updated EU restrictions relating to the use of PFOS and PFOA.
Our foam, wet chemical and water additive extinguishers do not contain PFOS, PFOA or PFHxS (known as POPS: persistent organic Pollutants).
2025 foam AFFF ban?
These foams contain chemicals which belong to a group of toxic chemicals called PFOS perfluorooctanoic acids (C8 AFFF) which do not degrade easily in nature and can cause environmental damage and serious health risks. These foams are currently being phased out and will be banned for use from 4th July 2025. These are not used in any of our current products for sale, including those detailed above.
The proposed EU restrictions that would ban PFAS in firefighting foam (C6 AFFF): this includes all ‘wet’ fire extinguishers that contain PFAS including foam, water additive and wet chemical for use in fire extinguishers is yet to be published but the current information from the EU council of ministers is that any ban on PFAS (C6 foams) is unlikely to come before the spring of 2026 and then there will be a 5-year transition period for portable fire extinguishers. Sales of ‘standard’ foam and wet chemical fire extinguishers will continue as these products remain fully compliant at the present time.
Alternative product availability:
In most scenarios such as commercial offices, warehouses etc. (in line with the fire risk assessment) cover is required for Class A and Class B fire risks therefore it is acceptable to offer a Carbon Dioxide fire extinguisher (to protect against Class B electrical risks) and a Water fire extinguisher (to cover Class A fire risks).
